Located at a distance of 145 km from Delhi and 58 km from Agra, Mathura is one of the major tourist spots of India. The city of Mathura is one of the holiest cities for the Hindus. Associated with many a historical events, the city of Mathura is considered to be one of the oldest cities in the world. His maternal uncle ployed to murder him but by sheer miracle Lord Krishna was rescued from the prison and transferred at Gokul to Yashoda. Yashoda played the role of a foster mother to Lord Krishna. Mathura is located on the banks of river Yamuna. Another major tourist attraction of Mathura is the Dwarkadheesh temple. Constructed in 1814, the Dwarkadheesh temple at Mathura is one of the most popular destinations in Mathura. The Vishram Ghat at Mathura is also associated with a whole lot of legendary stories. It is believed that Lord Krishna is said to have rested here after slaying his uncle Kansa who was a demon king. Close to the river Yamuna is also located the the Jamma Masjid. This mosque was built by Nabir Khan in 1661. impressive architecture and sky kissing minarets are well decorated with bright colored plaster mosaics and delicate art work. On your trip to Mathura do not forget to visit Gokul, Vrindaban, Govardhan, Mahavan, Barsana, Nandgaon, Baldeo and Kusum Sarovar. All these places are intimately connected to the legendary stories associated with Lord Krishna.
