Located in Rajasthan the city of Pushkar is one of the most holiest places of the Hindus. Pushkar is home to the only Brahma temple in the world. The city of Pushkar is located nearly 11km north west of Ajmer. As a part of your trip to Rajasthan, Pushkar will surely impress you with its rich culture and legendary history. Legend says that when Brahma one of the most important Hindu god opted for a second marriage his wife cursed him with the effect that other than Pushkar he will not be worshiped anywhere else. Since then the town of Pushkar has been a holy shrine for the Hindus. Adjacent to the Brahma temple at Pushkar lies the Pushkar Lake. Around the tranquil blue waters of the lake you can spot as many as fifty two temples. Besides the Brahma temple, the other popular temples in Pushkar are Apteshwar temple, Varah Temple, Savitri Temple and Rangji Temple. The Varah temple is devoted to Lord Vishnu. King Anaji Chauhan built the temple in Pushkar. The Varaha Temple in Pushkar maintains an idol of Vishnu in his fifth incarnation. The Savitri Temple is devoted to Lord Brahma's first wife. Located at the hilltop opposite the Pushkar Lake, this temple expects one to climb up a whole series of stairs. The shrine offers an excellent bird's eye view of the Pushkar town and the sand dunes lying in the distant.

The Pushkar Lake is believed to be as old as creation itself. Brahma , the creator of the world dropped his holy lotus at this spot and the lake was created to hold the lotus. The Pushkar Lake has as many as fifty two bathing ghats. Each ghat is believed to possess a special power. The Naga Kund at Pushkar Lake is considered to give fertility. Roop Tirth at Pushkar Lake will give you beauty and youth. Many staunch Hindus are of the opinion that Saint Augastya resided in one of the caves at Snake Mountain in Pushkar.
